When I was 9, my grandmother gave me a postcard set of Venice, Italy.
Gondolas, 14th century gothic buildings, Carnival and lace: how could I not fall in love? Little did she know the gift she gave me. It became my passion, to travel through time and place looking for beautiful places, gorgeous textiles and fascinating people.
That quest has led me to teach history, because I love it, and to become a museum curator, because I love stories and beautiful things. Now I am very thankful that I can write about beautiful places and fascinating people, and that others read it!
I love all things Jane Austen so this lead to a couple of books including my book Jane Austen’s Sewing Box, which came out in 2009 and was very popular! I took the craft mentioned by Jane Austen in her novels, put them in their historical context and provided you with instructions to make your own authentic Regency craft project.
My second book Behind Jane Austen’s Door is now available as an ebook on Kindle. This book grew out of my experience as a museum curator. I take you on a tour of a Regency house to explore the lives of Jane Austen's women.
